Smooth Hardbanding

The abrasion effect on casing wear and tool-joint bands increases several times when left in “as welded” condition, as small particles and debris from the drilling operations will be easier trapped in between the “as welded” surface and the casing surface. Castolin Eutectic strongly recommends the use of machining or grinding the surface to a smooth final appearance. 

This smooth hardbanding now is being applied by more ocean drilling companies.
